SUGGESTED CLOTHING FOR NEW RE-ENACTORS FOR 1812

Fabrics for this time period are linen, cotton and wool.  Colours are "earth" tones in muted shades.

Suggestions for buttons - horn, wood, pewter (want to try to make your own buttons? Try sawing a wooden broom handle).

MEN:

• Shirt - white/off white -linen or cotton

• Trousers - drop front- white cotton or grey wool

• Suspenders

• Vest - wool, cotton, linen

• Kerchief - black recommended, white is also correct

• Hat - straw, top hat, or slouch hat

• Footwear - black boot or oxford style shoe or moccasins

• Haversack

OPTIONAL ADDITIONS:

• Black gaiters

• Top coat

• Barracks coat

• Black belt - 2" wide leather

• Period glasses

• Gray great coat, capote, cloak

WOMEN:

• Chemise - white or off white cotton or linen

• Empire dress or skirt and short gown

• Cap - cotton or linen

• Apron - white cotton or linen

• Kerchief (fichu) - white or off white

• Appropriate footwear - black

OPTIONAL ADDITIONS:

• Straw hat or bonnet

• 1812 purse or basket or shoulder bag (small haversack style)
